A Young Woman Who Chose Life

In January of 1976, a young woman found out that she was pregnant.  Her and her husband had been struggling financially for quite sometime.  They already had three children and this news was an unwelcomed surprise.  Her husband encouraged her to have an abortion. Abortion had been legalized just a few years earlier in the Supreme Court’s decision of Roe vs. Wade. The young mother struggled with her decision.  They were in financial trouble, what should she do?   She looked at her other three children playing and thought to herself that all three of them had been in her womb as the present child. Could she stop this life that was growing in her?  What would she do?

January is a time where we celebrate sanctity of Human Life Sunday.  Every year churches across the country remember those who have been killed in the womb and bring awareness to the horrible practice of abortion.  Since the Roe vs. Wade decision it has been estimated that over 60 million babies have been killed in America. More attention has recently been brought to the abortion issue after the decision in New York that allows a child to be killed right up until birth. This decision should be criminal, but instead it was law makers on the senate floor that erupted in applause and cheers as the bill was passed.

God is the Creator of every life, therefore, innocent children in the womb should be protected. Proverbs 31:8 says, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves (have no voice), for the rights of all who are destitute.” God’s people should be defenders of these little ones with no voice. Psalm 139:16 says, “Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in your book were all written the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them.” Jeremiah 1:5 says, “before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.  And before you were born, I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.”  Leviticus 20 tells us that God will set His face against those who kill their children and against His people who do not oppose such killing.  In II Kings 17, God judged Israel because they sacrificed their children to idols. God hates the practice of abortion!

The scriptures clearly teach that life begins inside the womb. Exodus 21:22-23 tells us that if a pregnant woman is injured because of two men fighting and “she gives birth prematurely, yet there is no injury, he shall surely be fined as the woman’s husband may demand of him, and he shall pay as the judge decides.  But if there is any further injury, then you shall appoint as a penalty life for life.”

There are laws to protect un-hatched eggs of turtles in Florida.  There are also laws to protect eggs of spotted owls in the Northwest. This is clearly a country that has strained out a gnat, but swallowed camel. I pray to God that one day, babies in the womb across our entire country will be protected.

Are you interested in the decision made by the woman at the beginning of this article?  She decided against her husbands will and chose to have the child.  This would be her fourth and final child and author of this article. Thank you for choosing life Mom.

  1. Thank God she did. Can’t imagine a world without you and your amazing family. All are blessed who have come to know you.
